Cirque du Soleil Returns to Santa Monica: “Ovo” Arrives at the Santa Monica Pier
by Cindy Ambuehl on January 13, 2012Are you ready Santa Monica residents? Cirque du Soleil returns to the “Grand Chapiteau” at the Santa Monica Pier next week on January 20 with its latest creation, “Ovo”.
Taken from the Cirque du Soleil website: Ovo is “a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects’ home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion. OVO is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew.”
Written, directed and choreographed by native Brazilian Deborah Colker, Ovo is filled with Brazilian music and feeling, but as always, the acts take the cake. From the Slackwire Spider to the astonishing feet-juggling “Ants”, the acts create breathtaking visuals to compliment the astounding sonic sounds created by composer Berna Ceppas.
Cirque du Soleil’s “Ovo” has a run in Santa Monica of just over two months, opening January 20 and closing March 25. Tickets range from $158.50 to $53.50 for general admission tickets.
