ICE at Santa Monica: Ice Rink in Downtown SaMo Offers Family Fun and Special Events
by Cindy Ambuehl on November 8, 2011In Los Angeles we’re lucky to have great weather all year round. Unlike living in New York City, thick coats and tons of layers aren’t a necessity here. However, there are some things I definitely miss about the strong winters up north. Once a year, Santa Monica brings a little winter fun to its residents by opening an ice skating rink.
ICE at Santa Monica is a premier outdoor ice skating rink in Downtown SaMo. Located conveniently off of 5th and Arizona, ICE is a great place for events and parties or just a fun night out with the family. I’ve been going every year since it opened five years ago and I’ve always had a blast!
ICE also hosts its own special events. Every day of the week is something entertaining and typically a great value. On Wednesday’s, for instance, it’s “Wacky Hat Wednesdays”, which is always fun for kids. When it’s time to put the tots to bed, come back at 10:00 PM for the “After Hours Broom Ball,” a super fun game night on the ice. Make sure to make reservations as it typically gets pretty packed. On Friday’s it’s “Rock and Skate,” an evening full of music including live bands.
Check out their hours of operation through the season:
- November 11, 2011 – January 16, 2012
- Mon-Thurs: 2pm – 10pm
- Friday: 2pm – Midnight
- Saturday: 10am – Midnight
- Sunday: 10am – 10pm
The rink opens this Friday (November 11) with a grand opening celebration on November 15. I know I’ll be there – will you?
