Daylight Savings Time Ends: What Will You Do With Your Extra Hour?
by Cindy Ambuehl on November 1, 2011Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend on November 6th. What does this mean for us Angelenos? We not only get an extra hour of sleep, but we also get an extra hour of sunlight in the afternoon.
Need some ideas of what to do with your extra hour? Here are some fun ways to take advantage of the extra sun on the Westside this fall:
- Sunset at the Santa Monica Pier – The extra hour gives you a bit more time to make it to the Pier and catch the sunset. I suggest taking a ride on the Ferris wheel at that magical time to see views of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean. Parking is available at the Pier Deck, but I suggest parking at the Santa Monica Place and taking a nice walk through to the Pier. On the way back, grab a bite to eat at the Buddah’s Belly (2nd and Broadway) for some delicious Thai food.
- Beach Volleyball at The Annenberg Community Beach House – Let off some steam and invite your friends for a late match of Beach V at this new Santa Monica facility. Unveiled in 2009, the Beach House is home to a ton of fun and interesting activities, one of my favorites being Beach Volleyball.
- Stroll down Abbot Kinney – This famous street in Venice is home to many stores of an eclectic variety. Between the restaurants, art galleries, retail stores and the interesting people, there’s something for everyone. Some of my favorite places include Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea (the best coffeebar in Venice) and Aviator Nation, Paige Mycoskie’s retail venture that sells the most comfortable t-shirts and sweatpants ever.
I plan on taking full advantage of my extra hour of sunlight this year. How are you going to make the most out of your Southern California lifestyle? Tell me in the comments below.
