The Bar Method: Best Workout Classes in Los Angeles
by Cindy Ambuehl on October 31, 2011All of my friends know I love to live a healthy lifestyle. The method to my madness really starts at The Bar Method, the best workout classes on the Westside of Los Angeles. This full body workout that starts and stop on a ballet bar attached horizontally to a wall.
From The Bar Method itself, the practice “integrates the fat-burning format of interval training with muscle-shaping isometrics to quickly and safely reshape the entire body.” Its non-impact, one-hour workout targets all major muscle groups and improves posture. The result is a recognizable “Bar Method body” featuring sculpted arms, flat abs, a lifted seat, and elongated thighs.”
The method alternates between bursts of wild workouts to soft relaxing stretches, both on the ballet bar and on mats. Don’t mistake this for pilates or yoga, though! Pilates and yoga take place primarily on mats and a main focus is on strengthening the mind. The Bar Method is focused primarily on re-aligning muscles by physical fitness.
With locations in Brentwood, Burbank, Encino, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, Marina Del Rey, Pasadena, and West Hollywood, you can get to a bar method close to you from almost anywhere. I’ve been going twice times a week (alternating with spin classes at Revolution, also on the West Side) and I can feel and see the difference in my body. Overall, I feel happier and much more energetic after completing a workout on for days following.
