Santa Monica Health: Eco-Friendly Living By the Beach
by Cindy Ambuehl on October 7, 2011There’s a passion for healthy living in many of our coastal cities, but nowhere in Los Angeles does healthy living mean more than in Santa Monica. The city boasts numerous fitness studios, many organic grocery stores and they even recently banned the use of plastic bags anywhere within city limits.
To Santa Monica’s residents, living a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle is incredibly important. Check out some of my favorite places and ways to stay healthy and help the environment in my neighborhood:
1. Santa Monica Farmers Market – 2640 Main Street: If you’ve ever been to the Santa Monica Farmers Market, you know why this is one of my favorite places to be on Sunday mornings. If not, you’re missing out! The Santa Monica Farmers Market is a great, family friendly activity to do on Sundays. The earlier you go the better, as the Market typically closes around 1pm. You’ll find the best organic and homegrown fruits and vegetables, and the entertainment is really fun. If you want to get a little workout before, ride your bike. The bike valet provided is fantastic. The fun family activities, healthy and great foods, and wonderful ambiance make this Farmers Market my favorite in LA.
2. Santa Monica Stairs – 4th and Adelaide: Don’t let the serene surroundings fool you – you’re going to get a hard workout here! At the corner of 4th and Adelaide is the sign-less entrance to The Stairs. You can choose to go up the more narrow path of cement stairs, or take the more comfortable wooden stairs. Either way, you’re bound to feel the burn by your third or fourth trip up. Don’t let this scare you, however because the view from the top is well worth it.
3. The Green Life – 2409 Main Street: The Green Life is a great store selling a variety of practical and eco-friendly items. From cleaning items, to body products, this boutique sells a bit of everything. The last time I was in, I bought my puppy a super cute and eco-friendly dog toy and collar. It’s a fun store to shop in and they have items it’s hard to find anywhere else.

Cindy,
I enjoyed reading your post and I am really interested in going to The Green Life on Main! I have not heard of it. Is it new?
